Fruit and veggie smoothies are a great thing, like this Pear & Kale Smoothie. Unlike juices, you get the whole food, juice, fiber, nutrients and all. In this vividly green drink, sweetened with apple cider, diced pear and frozen grapes for a delightfully delicious and refreshing way to get those cancer-fighting servings of fruits and veggies into yoursystem.

  • 1 medium pear, peeled, cored and diced
  • ½ cup frozen grapes
  • ⅛-inch slice of fresh ginger
  • 1 cup chopped kale
  • 3 ice cubes
  • ½ to ¾ cup apple cider, as needed
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)

Chef Tips

You can use any variety of kale to make this smoothie. I would recommend using ripe Bartlett, Anjou or Comice pears. They are the sweetest.
