Sweet Satisfaction – Healthier Sweet Treats
We humans love our sugar. Sugar is rare in nature and we are hard wired to indulge ourselves in what we find, but unfortunately our sweet tooth didn’t evolve to deal with the enormous amounts of sugar we are bombarded with in this modern age. It can make us sick if we’re not careful. The processed foods in the basic American diet directly and indirectly feed our... bodies unneeded calories, and sugars, in the form of refined carbs and added sugars, all of which can end up making us overweight. Although this sugar does not directly feed cancer, these added pounds can bring with them a host of serious health problems including heart disease, diabetes, and a heightened risk for many cancers. We’re not asking you to give up sweets, but however much you may love them, we’d like you to consider making them occasional treats to enjoy in moderation. Getting into the kitchen to cook can help to keep an eye on the amount sugar used and eaten. To show you what we mean, here are some easy, healthier takes on sweet treats that will satisfy your cravings without a lot of extra sugar and give you some (almost) guilt-free sweet satisfaction!
