If in treatment, check with the RD or MD if probiotic foods are safe to eat. This recipe impresses people. It is very easy to transform plain yogurt by adding some fruit, or honey,... a touch of vanilla or, as here, delicious maple syrup. It couldn’t be simpler to do and gives complete control over the amount of sugar added. This is important to know. The popular commercial flavored yogurts are full of hidden sugars. A 6-ounce container of fruit yogurt has 25 grams of sugar, and although the ‘light’ versions have about half that, the manufacturers make up the difference with the artificial sweetener aspartame, plus there are the unpronounceable things added to stabilize it. With this delicious yogurt you’ll know exactly what you’re getting in it: real yogurt and real maple syrup, nothing else.
In a bowl whisk together the yogurt and maple syrup. Taste for sweetness. Serve with fruit or chopped pecans.
Chef Tips
For best results, use real maple syrup.
28 grams = 1 ounce. Always worth knowing when it comes to sugar.
Food for thought: 1 tablespoon of maple syrup contains approximately 12 grams of sugar. This means that our recipe uses the same amount of sugar to make 8 servings as commercially flavored yogurts use in a single 6oz serving.
